• artist-in-incubator program

Each season—spring, summer, and fall—we invite an artist or team to join our Artist-in-Incubator program. Participants receive a dedicated 200 sq ft studio space and a stipend. This program serves as a creative incubator and a community-centered hub for experiential learning, collaborative making, and cross-disciplinary exchange.

The selected artist or team will organize an exhibition and public presentation, lead a workshop (with potential for additional income), and have access to shared office facilities.

We are currently accepting submissions for the upcoming term (Fall 2025, 2–3 months). If you’re interested, please email us for more information.

  • OUR MISSIONS

While MACRE continues to shape its collective mission, one central goal guides us: to expand access to media tools, skills, and resources for marginalized and underfunded communities, including local nonprofits. By working together, we center community voices and creative expression to address real-world issues and build shared purpose. Our evolving mission is grounded in three key commitments:

    Collaborative Art

Our participatory media approach ensures communities are involved at every stage—idea, creation, and reflection—fostering fresh perspectives and collective ownership of the creative process

    Civic Engagement

We see art as a tool for justice. Inspired by figures like Dorothy Cotton, we use media and public art to advance democracy, human rights, and transformative change.

    Community-Based

MACRE is rooted in cooperative values. We work with local partners to amplify voices without relying on advertising, and envision a member-owned model that strengthens the Ithaca area through shared media creation.

  • experimental workshops

MACRE organizes fun, hands-on workshops that celebrate experimentation and creativity. For our first pop-up pilot session, we hosted The Windmills of Your Mind—a workshop for young artists where technology, art, and sustainability beautifully converge.

Participants transformed discarded computer cooling fans into vibrant, kinetic artworks—blending the meditative flow of circular painting, inspired by mandala traditions, with a playful introduction to basic electrical engineering. Through guided activities, they explored sacred geometry, learned to wire and test small electric motors, and reimagined e-waste as spinning, living art. The workshop encouraged mindfulness, environmental awareness, and creative problem-solving—offering moments of wonder as each piece came alive in motion.
